as neat a deal as this may be, the device itself is functionally useless. the very lip which holds the bag in place (and out of site) is the same plastic lip that shreds the full bag as you attempt to yank, pull, push, kick and get generally frustrated attempting to simply ‘take out the garbage’. Once you clean up the floor, you have 2 options: return the item to Costco, or get a pliers and gently but forcefully remove the interior plastic lip. – this should make it work, but will effectively void any warranty. good luck.

    • Yikes! Thanks for the insight!

      so true!

Use 13 gallon bags. Unless they’re extremely over-stuffed they pull out without snagging.

the battery holder fell out and broke upon emptying the garbage so I called the number provided on that small brochure that came with it and they shipped me a new one at no cost!

    • I love it when companies step up like this. Thanks for sharing, Debbie!

      Hello Debbie,

This just happened to mine as well, but I’ve thrown out the brochure. I was wondering if you pass on the phone number to me? 🙂

      • Debbie MacWilliams

        Albert,
Although I cannot find the brochure, I looked in my cell phone call log and here is the number: 1 800 354 5605
        Good Luck!
        Debbie

          you need the battery cover
model number of trash can: EK988BMT-80L
here is a tip: if you ever need to keep the lid open, you can open the trash can manually by pressing where it says “open” to the left of the lights on the front and press “close” when you want to close it.
and also pressing “close” will reset the modes if you ever need to do that.

Just realized I lost a battery pack!! I had thrown away all literature so thanks for the number and info. They are shipping me a replacement. Think I’ll use some tape to prevent this issue in the future. I otherwise love the unit and it’s convenience. I would def buy again if I had a use for another. As to tearing of bags….. I use the Costco brand and I have yet to have one tear due to the can or it’s lip over months of use

Wow. I just called and they are sending me a new battery pack AND the small ring that holds the bag for free. Two years after I bought the can. Very nice.
I just wish they had a 12 volt plug because 8 AA batteries every couple of months gets expensive. Even at Costco prices.
